Yorkshire Water hails success of satellite leakage trial

Yorkshire Water says the first stage of its leak detection project with the use of satellites, a service offered in the UK by SUEZ, has been “hugely successful” and has saved 0.5 megalitres of water per day.

Yorkshire Water said the satellite leak detection method helped the team to find double the number of leaks compared to traditional methods.

The innovative technique uses satellite imaging technology to detect water underground. Images from satellites are used and with a unique interpretation of those images, it is possible to detect characteristic signals that indicate the presence of water. SUEZ offer this technology in the UK, in collaboration with our technology partners Utilis.
