The issue

The water company is focused on keeping leakage low
SMGSEVESC (Syndicat Mixte pour la Gestion du Service des Eaux de Versailles et Saint Cloud) supplies drinking water to 400,000 people annually. Despite an impressive network efficiency with just 11% Non-Revenue Water (NRW) out of 24 million m³ delivered, SMGSEVESC aimed to push this even lower. The utility sought to leverage advanced technologies and data science to enhance leak detection, continuously monitor water quality, and further optimize water service efficiency.

The solution

The water utility implemented the water network management software,  AQUADVANCED® Water Networks
To achieve these goals, SMGSEVESC partnered with SUEZ to implement a customized program based on the AQUADVANCED® Water Networks solution. This software suite excels in providing relevant, actionable data through an intuitive interface. The network head and operations team use this data daily to swiftly and accurately address any issues. The utility's staff were trained to use the software, which can be accessed remotely, ensuring consistent oversight and quick response times.

The result

By implementing AQUADVANCED® Water Networks, SMGSEVESC significantly improved their water efficiency, achieving an NRW rate of under 10% while enhancing overall service quality and operational response.

The specific results include:

  • Water Savings: 200,000 m³ of water saved in 2 years, equivalent to the annual consumption of a town with 4,000 residents.
  • NRW Reduction: Non-Revenue Water was reduced to below 10%, surpassing the utility's goal.
  • Enhanced Monitoring: The software enabled the detection of bacterial growth and chlorine decreases related to changes in water sources.
  • Operational Efficiency: 80% of detected events were confirmed by operators, with 95% of these related to hydraulic issues, demonstrating the software's effectiveness in real-time network management.
