Fondation SUEZ x ACTED Niger: relieving the pressure of displaced populations on host communities
ACTED heads an NGO consortium in order to support the resilience of vulnerable refugee, displaced populations and host communities in the Diffa region.
The region faces a massive wave of displaced populations coming from neighbouring Nigeria. In this region, already impacted by instability, insecurity, poverty and the scarcity of vital resources such as water, these events add a lot of additional pressure.
ACTED and its partners operate in six municipalities to meet the basic needs of the most vulnerable by facilitating access to water, hygiene and sanitation, and by strengthening food and nutritional security and access to livelihood. The consortium also endeavours to protect and tighten social cohesion and to prevent conflicts between communities.
To date, the association has installed 1400 metres of pipes and 8 water fountains, which 3052 people will benefit from.
