The mission
Mumbai, with a population of more than 15 million, has seen intense urbanization and population growth over the last few decades resulting in increasing pressure on water resources. Wastewater management has emerged as a key concern area for the local authorities. The existing sewage infrastructure consisting of a 1,500 km network which collects 1.7 million m3/day is not adequate to handle the increasing volumes of wastewater generated. To address this issue, MCGM has launched the Mumbai Sewage Disposal Project (MSDP) Stage-II Master Plan that covers the development of wastewater treatment and facilities by 2025 to meet the projected flows
MSDP, which will be funded by Atal Mission For Rejuvenation And Urban Transformation (AMRUT), has proposed an upgrading of existing sewage treatment plants and construction of seven new ones in several localities (Colaba, Worli, Bandra, Versova, Malad, Ghatkopar and Bhandup). The 37 MLD Wastewater Treatment facility at Colaba is the first project to be awarded as part of this MSDP master plan.
Our Solutions
SUEZ is currently in the process of building the plant which will be equipped with optimized activated sludge process followed by Disc Filtration & Chlorination for a tertiary treatment, allowing potential reuse of treated wastewater. Additionally, equipped with SUEZ’s degremont® technology AZURAIR-C for odour removal, once completed this modern and compact plant will be perfectly integrated into its serene existing environment.
Since the last 35 years, SUEZ has been supporting MCGM in improving the drinking water quality for the city of Mumbai. Over the years, SUEZ has designed and built the drinking water treatment plants at Panjarapur and Bhandup, having a combined production capacity of 3.4 million m3/day, catering to the potable water needs of over 15 million people in city of Mumbai and Greater Mumbai region. SUEZ is presently working with MCGM in a contract to build and operate a new drinking water treatment plant at Vihar Lake, incorporating the latest state-of-the-art SUEZ technology - AquaDAF® clarifiers and high-rate filters.
