Celebrating World Water Day: Our Commitment to Sustainable Water Practices

Water is essential for all living beings, yet today, 2.2 billion people – 1 in 4 – lack access to safe water. This highlights the urgent need to raise awareness around the importance of fresh water and its sustainable management. Since 1993, March 22 has been observed as World Water Day, a day dedicated to taking action against the global water crisis.

At SUEZ India, we believe in the power of community action to drive meaningful change. This World Water Day, through a series of engaging and impactful initiatives, we encouraged colleagues to reflect on their relationship with water and take steps toward a more sustainable future.

Here’s a look at the key initiatives organised at SUEZ India on World Water Day:

Water Pledge Wall: A Collective Commitment to Water Conservation

One of the highlights of our World Water Day activities was the Water Pledge Wall. This initiative allowed colleagues to publicly commit to water-saving practices in their daily lives. Whether it was reducing water waste, fixing leaks, or supporting clean water initiatives, employees across locations wrote their commitments on the Pledge Wall and took a step toward making a real difference.

Educational Learning Session: Raising Awareness on Water Issues

An informative learning session was organised that brought together sustainability enthusiasts to learn about global and local water challenges. Ayushi Biswas, hydrogeologist and GIS Consultant from Biome Environmental Trust, Bengaluru, shared insights into the pressing issues of water scarcity, pollution, and the need for responsible water usage. She talked about water crisis in the Bengaluru city and what initiatives are being taken by their organisation to tackle this issue. Participants left with a deeper understanding of the importance of water and simple, actionable steps to reduce consumption and improve water quality in their own lives.

Cloth Donation Drive: Supporting Clean Water Access

In addition to our educational efforts, a Cloth Donation Drive in collaboration with our NGO partner Goonj was also held, where colleagues were encouraged to donate gently used clothes. This initiative not only provided support to those in need but also highlighted the importance of sustainable practices, demonstrating that even small acts can contribute to solving larger environmental challenges.
While World Water Day is a special occasion to reflect on the importance of water, we are committed to making sustainability a year-round effort. The initiatives we conducted are just the beginning of our ongoing work to inspire and empower everyone to conserve water and protect our planet’s vital resources.
